Tijuana’s Mexican Kitchen is a family owned and operated destination for the freshest, most authentically-prepared Mexican foods in Southeast Michigan.
Marisa Garcia launched the company on Cinco de Mayo in 1991 as a home-based catering business in Southwest Detroit, an area rich in Mexican culture and tradition.
Word spread quickly about Marisa’s new venture and the quality of her dishes, and in the next two years, she and her family found themselves busily catering parties, festivals, and other events across the areas.
The very active catering business continues to this day.
Tijuana’s Mexican Kitchen opened its first location in 1993, with a second full-service location opening in Lincoln Park in 2002. Since Marisa grew up in Southwest Detroit, she wanted to be a part of the city’s revitalization, so a third full-service location was opened in Detroit in 2012.
While having three locations keeps our family pretty busy, we have also maintained a tradition of closing on Sundays as we worship and spend time with our families.

At Tijuana’s Mexican Kitchen, we pride ourselves in serving fresh and authentic dishes for you to enjoy. Our recipes have been handed down over the generations – from grandmother, to mother, and to our founder, Marisa. Today, those recipes are being handed down to Marisa and Steve’s five adult children, who work in management at all our locations.

We buy our ingredients from only the freshest and closest Detroit area sources. That’s why you’ll find items like our award-winning salsas and our tasty margaritas—so delectable that you’ll keep coming back for more!
Who says Mexican cooking can’t be healthy? We offer many vegetarian and gluten-free selections, and have a gluten-free menu which includes botana, fajitas, flautas, tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas. And, our refried beans are prepared lard-free, cooked only with pure vegetable oil. You’re welcome to visit any of our three locations – Southgate, Lincoln Park, or Detroit – and “get fresh” with us.
